A drop in visibility can be a warning sign, but it's often expected.

Common reasons

  • You added prompts. Most teams start with prompts they're likely to win, then add harder ones. New prompts bring the average down.
  • You expanded into new countries or topics where competition is stronger.
  • Normal day-to-day movement. AI answers vary from run to run. Small daily or weekly changes aren't a reason to worry.
  • Competitors published new content that AI now cites instead of yours.

Find the cause

  1. Use the topic, AI platform and location filters to see whether the drop is limited to one segment.
  2. Look at a longer time range to separate trends from noise.
  3. Read the answers for prompts where you dropped out, and check which competitors and sources replaced you on Mentions.
